Do you want to improve your athletic performance, or exercise more but it hurts too much?
June 13th, 2011When the weather gets warmer, exercising in your pool is a great way to improve your physical fitness. Whether you are a child, athlete, baby boomer, or active senior, exercising in a pool is a “cool,” safe, and fun way to burn calories, improve your strength and endurance, cross train or just relax. The buoyancy of the water makes exercising easy on your joints, the viscosity of the water provides resistance. The unique characteristics of water allow you to burn calories, improve your athletic performance, relieve pain, increase your strength, flexibility and endurance, even your ability to play catch with your grandchildren. There are local gyms that have indoor or outdoor pools for fun and enjoyment.
For those who need rehabilitation, our facility has the only privately owned SwimEx pool in the Conejo Valley. This is the same pool used for rehabilitation by the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team and many other professional sports and college teams due to the quick injury recovery that water provides. Therapeutic pool exercise, as the initial stage of your physical therapy treatment, is one of the most comfortable and ideal ways to recover from many different conditions. Our physical therapists are experts in evaluation, treatment planning, treating and making sure you progress to meet your goals. When appropriate, using the pool is one of the best ways to start your rehabilitation program as measured by patient results. Our therapists have seen dramatic improvement in their patients’ strength, flexibility, endurance, stability, function and athletic performance, after orthopedic injuries that both do and don’t require surgery, athletic injuries, arthritis, neurological disorders, back pain, fibromyalgia and other rheumatic diseases.
The best part is you don’t have to know how to swim to use the pool and it is kept at a warm temperature of 92-94 degrees. The pool is 4 or 5 feet deep, adjustable for your height. For those who are unable to manage stairs, we have a hydraulic lift to assist you in and out of the pool. As your strength and abilities improve, we can challenge you with a current that increases from a gentle stream to a raging river depending on your fitness level. As your physical therapists, we see the pool as a fun and rewarding way to help our patients reach their goals. Nothing is more satisfying to us than seeing the smiles on your faces once you are in the pool, feeling the difference that water makes.
If you would like to learn more about our us, we would enjoy giving you a free tour of our facility and a beach ball for your own pool fun. We can be reached at (805) 496-2189. We look forward to helping you and answering any questions you may have about our programs.
Thank you,
